Full - Plant Identification Workshop - Tuesday April 14 through Thursday April 16, 2015

If you want to learn to recognize many of the common plants of Louisiana and the Gulf South, the names of those plants, and how to identify other plants, this is the workshop for you. The workshop will include fieldtrips, where you can see the plants in their natural environment as well as labeled specimens in a lab setting. Additional info on plant identification will be presented thru power-point presentations and printed handouts. You will be given BRF’s (Best Recognizing Features) for each plant plus other facts like use, edibility etc. You are encouraged to photograph, take notes, ask questions, and take specimens with you. During the three day workshop, you will be exposed to more than 200 species of wildflowers, grasses, ferns, trees, shrubs, and vines.

If you want to learn to recognize Graminoid species (Grasses-Poaceae, Sedges-Cyperaceae, and Rushes-Juncaceae) of Louisiana and the Gulf South as well as many of the Graminoid genera from the world, this is the workshop for you. The workshop will include fieldtrips, where you can see the plants in their natural environment as well as labeled specimens in a lab setting. Plant Identification Walks and/or Workshops Available On Demand

Would you like to learn to Louisiana wildflowers, graminoids, edible plants, trees or any other plants? Any combination of walks and/or workshops are available for groups of five or more so get your friends together and call (337-328-2252) or email. This would also be great for your church or gardening or other group. You can choose wildflowers, grasses, sedges, rushes, trees, shrubs, vines, or even edible plants or a combination. And you can opt for a tour or inside workshop or both. The teacher is Dr Charles Allen, author of Edible Plants of the Gulf South, Trees, Shrubs, and Woody Vines of Louisiana, and Grasses of Louisiana. He has led many tours and workshops during the past 30 years. Tours and Workshops generally last about four hours but longer or shorter ones can be arranged. The minimum number is five (surely you have that many friends) and the cost is $30 each for groups of 5 to 10 and $25 each for groups of 11 or more. This price includes free plant lists.
